Team Challenge

Tuesday 21st The NICS Live Team Challenge

The Seed/Solve Team Challenge
Developed in conjunction with ‘Business in the Community’, this challenge will have teams of volunteers from across NICS working with Mental Health Charities during a six week period.  Teams will compete against each other as they benefit their charity in two ways:
Seed – each team will grow an initial £100 ‘seed’ (provided by their charity) into as much money as possible.
Solve – teams will develop an innovative solution to a problem facing their charity.

Who is the Challenge open to?
The challenge is open to NICS staff at all grades in all locations.

Approval to volunteer
You should ensure that you have approval from your head of branch before volunteering.

Your availability – key dates
You should aim to be available to attend the team challenge launch on Tuesday 21st February and NICS Live on 24th May 2017.
You must also be able to contribute to the challenge during the six week period from 3rd March to 14th April.
Team members will be randomly selected and successful volunteers will be invited to the launch.

Time commitment
You will be permitted 5 working days to participate in this challenge during the six week period. In addition, it is anticipated that you will be required to undertake activities within your spare time.

Mental Health Charities
Each volunteer will be placed in a team to work with a local Charity - it is intended that you will be allocated a charity convenient to you.

The process and scoring
In addition to the ‘Seed growing’ element of the challenge, each team will be tasked with developing an innovative solution to a problem facing their charity. At the end of the challenge, each team will pitch their solution ‘Dragon’s Den’ style to a panel of judges!

Both elements of the challenge (the Seed and the Solve) are equally important - each will contribute 50% to the final score. The fund-raising element will be combined with the judges scoring (Think ‘Strictly Come Dancing’ – the Judges score combined with the public vote).

The Challenge finale
The challenge will culminate at the Belfast Waterfront during NICS Live on 24 May 2017, where each team’s efforts will be showcased by a short video montage before the winning team is announced!
